Burlington reveals secret talks over Millcroft Golf Course lands
Burlington City Council has lifted confidentiality on parts of its negotiations for the Millcroft Golf Course lands. The move follows ongoing discussions about acquiring the remaining property. Councillors and the mayor publicly apologised after disclosing previously private details.
On March 10, 2026, the council agreed to waive solicitor-client privilege on specific aspects of the case. They revealed that the city had authorised the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) to negotiate the purchase of the undeveloped lands. These lands exclude areas already approved for redevelopment by the Ontario Land Tribunal.
The council offered the owner $15 million—around three times the 2020 purchase price. However, the owner declined the bid. Despite the refusal, the city confirmed that only previously public information was released. All other negotiation details remain confidential. Councillors Bentivegna and Mayor Meed Ward shared the updates with the public. They also issued an apology for the earlier breach of confidentiality. The council accepted their apology during the session.
The disclosure clarifies the city's position on the Millcroft Golf Course lands. The rejected $15 million offer marks the latest step in a prolonged negotiation. Further details on the matter will stay protected under solicitor-client privilege.
