Burlington's Ward 2 Councillor Proposes Audit of City's Pool Time Allocation Process

Burlington's Ward 2 Councillor Lisa Kearns has proposed a Motion for an audit of the city's pool schedule allocation process. The audit, to be conducted by City Auditor Sarah Karhoff at no additional cost, aims to review the documentation, decision-making process, and compliance with the Council-approved Procurement Bylaw. Mayor Meed Ward acknowledges public dissatisfaction with the current pool schedule allocation decision.

The Motion does not require a seconder at the Standing Committee stage. The audit will cover the timeline of key documents, differences in approach between adults and youth, and alignment with the City's Procurement Bylaw. The Burlington Aquatic Devilrays (BAD) club, serving the city for over 40 years, has been impacted by the flawed pool schedule allocation process.

The audit is expected to be completed and reported back to the Committee of the Whole by December 2, 2025. However, The Gazette raises questions about the comprehensiveness of the audit and whether its findings will be presented at a public meeting with Q&A opportunities.

Councillor Kearns' Motion for an audit of the pool schedule allocation process is underway, with the City Auditor set to investigate the documentation, decision-making process, and compliance with the Procurement Bylaw. The Burlington Aquatic Devilrays club, affected by the flawed process, awaits the audit's findings. The public and The Gazette anticipate a thorough and transparent process, with the audit report expected by December 2, 2025.
