CAAM and Futurise set to unveil Advanced Air Mobility operational guidelines by early 2026

Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) and Futurise Sdn Bhd Collaborate to Fast-Track Malaysia's Entry into the Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) Era

The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) and Futurise Sdn Bhd have joined forces to position Malaysia as a regional leader in the low-altitude airspace economy. This collaboration aims to fast-track Malaysia's entry into the Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) era, a transformative technology that promises to revolutionise urban mobility.

In December 2024, CAAM appointed Futurise as the Secretariat of the Advanced Air Mobility Steering Committee (AAM-SC). Futurise will spearhead the development of the Concept of Operations (ConOps) document and contribute to the AAM roadmap. The ConOps will guide the safe introduction and growth of AAM services in Malaysia, defining operational scenarios, stakeholder roles, airspace usage, and regulatory requirements.

Futurise Sdn Bhd, along with CAAM, will ensure input from all corners of government, regulators, and the aviation industry through a series of workshops and industry engagements throughout 2025. The collaboration also aims to align the ConOps with internationally recognised regulatory frameworks set by organisations like the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

Dato' Captain Norazman Bin Mahmud, CEO of CAAM, stated that the ConOps will progress to a regulatory sandbox, transitioning AAM from conceptual discussions to real-world applications. He clarified that while drones are already regulated under Civil Aviation Regulations and Directives, AAM encompasses a broader class of aircraft like eVTOLs that require a new regulatory approach.

CAAM and Futurise are developing the AAM Concept of Operations (ConOps), targeted for release in the first quarter of 2026. The authority is committed to fostering innovation and ensuring the safe and efficient integration of AAM into Malaysia's aviation landscape.
