Cable Car CEO Battle Escalates as German Town Council Defies Court Rulings

A bitter dispute has erupted over control of Karwendelbahn AG, a cable car company in southern Germany. Wolfgang Wilhelm Reich, the majority shareholder, is locked in a confrontation with the town council and Mayor Enrico Corongiu. Court rulings from 2022 and 2023 now form the basis of Reich's legal challenge against the local authorities.

The conflict began when the Munich Regional Court issued several decisions in 2022 and 2023. A key ruling on 15 June 2022 declared Corongiu's appointment of a new management team invalid. The court temporarily reinstated Reich as the sole CEO, a move he cites as proof of his authority.

Corongiu, however, disputes Reich's claim to the CEO title. He argues that without a functioning supervisory board, Reich's position lacks legitimacy. Attempts to install an interim management team through the courts have further angered Reich, who views them as a deliberate provocation.

Reich has gone further, accusing Corongiu and Deputy Mayor Georg Seitz of improper conduct. He also suspects organized favoritism, naming Klemens Reindl—a lawyer, former town councillor, and current district council candidate—as part of the alleged scheme. Reports suggest Corongiu had previously approached Reindl about taking over as CEO of Karwendelbahn AG.

The dispute has now spilled into legal action, with Reich filing complaints against Corongiu, Seitz, and two former supervisors at the Munich District Court.

The legal battle leaves Karwendelbahn AG in a state of uncertainty. Court decisions from 2022 and 2023 support Reich's position, yet Corongiu's administration continues to challenge his authority. The outcome will determine who controls the company—and how its operations move forward.
