Calgary Man Arrested for Smuggling $7M in Cocaine at Coutts Border
A 28-year-old Calgary man faces serious charges after attempting to smuggle a massive amount of cocaine into Canada. The bust took place at the Coutts border, with US customs officers discovering nearly 77 kg of the drug.
The cocaine, valued at $7 million on the streets, was found during a secondary inspection of a commercial truck on Sept. 25. The man, a 28-year-old Calgary resident, is now facing multiple charges, including importing a controlled substance, possession with intent to traffic, and attempting to export prohibited goods.
He is due to appear in court in Lethbridge on Oct. 17 to answer these charges.
The arrest highlights the ongoing efforts to combat drug smuggling at the Canada-US border. The seized cocaine represents a significant disruption to the illegal drug trade, with a street value that could have funded further criminal activities.
