A dramatic incident unfolded in Rotenburg (Wümme) on Thursday evening when a car crashed through a bridge railing and plunged into the Wiedau river. The accident happened around 11 p.m. as the vehicle veered off the road in a right-hand curve.
Police suspect the incident was part of an illegal street race involving a second car. Both cars, along with the driver's license and mobile phones of the four men involved, have been seized. The driver and passenger, both in their early twenties, sustained minor injuries but managed to escape from the car. As of now, no further details about the identities of the two persons involved in the alleged illegal street race have been released, except for the driver whose car went into the river.
