Caritas Expands Offenbach Childcare with 400+ Spots After Church Takeover
Caritas has expanded its childcare services in Offenbach after taking over six facilities from the Catholic Church. Since April 2023, the organization now provides over 400 spots across multiple districts. A recent meeting with city officials highlighted further growth plans.
In April 2023, the Caritas-Vereinigung Offenbach took responsibility for six daycare centers previously managed by the Catholic Church. These facilities now offer more than 400 places for children in different parts of the city.
On 21 January, Mayor Sabine Groß met with Caritas Director Martin Webers, Axel Hechler, and Manuela Cwielong to review progress. The discussions focused on current operations and future needs, particularly in areas with high demand.
One key development is the expansion of St. Marien Daycare, which will add 50 new places. This move directly addresses shortages in the Mathildenviertel neighborhood, where families have struggled to find available spots. The center emphasizes a family-like environment, close work with parents, and inclusive education for children of all backgrounds and abilities.
Caritas Offenbach's broader mission, outlined in its 2026 campaign, aims to link support across all age groups. Mayor Groß praised the organization's experience and its wider role in social services during the meeting.
The expansion at St. Marien Daycare will increase Caritas' capacity to 450 places across Offenbach. The city now relies on the organization's childcare expertise alongside its established social programs. Further updates on the 2026 campaign are expected in the coming months.
