CDU backs School of the Future but demands stricter oversight in Rheinland-Pfalz

The CDU has set out its position on the School of the Future initiative in Rheinland-Pfalz. While backing the project, the party insists on clear conditions and a focus on proven measures. Critics had suggested a change in government might put the scheme at risk, but the CDU has dismissed these claims as unfounded. The School of the Future project began in 2021 under then-Education Minister Stefanie Hubig of the SPD. Its goals include greater school autonomy, new teaching methods, and a revised approach to assessments. The CDU has now confirmed its support but with reservations.

The party plans to evaluate which parts of the initiative have worked well in practice. Successful elements could then be expanded more widely. At the same time, the CDU will scrutinise proposed innovations for their necessity, feasibility, and real-world impact.

Opponents have warned that a shift in government might threaten the project's future. The CDU has labelled these concerns as scaremongering and electioneering. Instead, the party emphasises its commitment to shaping education policy with a focus on children's needs. The CDU's stance means the School of the Future project will continue, though under stricter review. Only measures that prove effective in schools will receive broader backing. The party's approach aims to balance reform with practical, child-centred outcomes.
