CDU Dermbach Celebrates 80 Years of Shaping Town's History
The local branch of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) in Dermbach recently celebrated its 80th anniversary. The event, attended by over 150 members and guests, honoured long-standing members and looked back at the party's history and influence on the town.
The celebration featured a historical lecture by Hans Peter Mötzung, who traced the CDU Dermbach's journey from its founding in 1945 to the present day. Key moments included its electoral successes in 1946, resistance during the DDR era, and the significant role it played in Dermbach's transformation after the fall of the Berlin Wall.
The CDU Dermbach has been instrumental in shaping the town's political, social, and cultural landscape. Under the leadership of former chairman Harald Wehner, who later became mayor, the party helped develop Dermbach into a modern hub. Today, it boasts an industrial area, new shopping opportunities, medical care, and cultural facilities. The event also honoured several long-standing members, including Achim Storz, Gerhard Buchhardt, and Peter Kynast, among others.
