CDU for Law on Cultural Promotion - CDU Pushes for New Law to Boost Culture Spending in Rhineland-Palatinate
The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) in Rhineland-Palatinate is pushing for a new law to promote culture and secure cultural infrastructure. The initiative, led by CDU parliamentary group leader Gordon Schnieder, will be discussed in the Mainz state parliament on Thursday. The party aims to increase cultural spending and establish culture as a mandatory task for the state.
Currently, Rhineland-Palatinate spends 74.05 euros per capita on culture, significantly less than the federal average of 137.54 euros. The CDU plans to address this disparity with a long-term cultural promotion plan. The party wants to secure cultural infrastructure, including theaters, museums, libraries, and cultural centers, through a cultural promotion law. Schnieder is advocating for binding cultural responsibilities to be enshrined in law. The CDU criticizes the current approach, stating that budget increases only offset cost increases and do not enable new cultural impulses.
