CDU's Czaja slams government for wasting taxpayer funds on failed reforms
Mario Czaja, a leading CDU politician, has sharply criticised the federal government's handling of public funds. He claims taxpayer money has been wasted while necessary reforms remain ignored. His remarks follow a warning about politicians mismanaging finances, quoting former finance minister Wolfgang Schäuble's blunt assessment: 'Never give politicians more money. They don't handle it responsibly enough.' Czaja's criticism centres on the federal government's special infrastructure budget. He argues that funds meant for urgent projects have instead been misused. The scale of the problem, he says, is even worse than expected.
Now, he is pushing CDU members of the Bundestag to take legal action. His demand includes filing an institutional complaint with the Federal Constitutional Court. So far, however, no CDU lawmakers have publicly backed such a move. Czaja also warns that the financial mismanagement will leave a heavy burden on future generations. He insists that those responsible must face consequences for diverting funds from their intended purpose. His calls echo Schäuble's long-standing scepticism about political spending habits.
The dispute highlights tensions over fiscal responsibility within Germany's governing parties. Czaja's push for legal action remains unanswered by CDU colleagues. Without a formal complaint, the alleged misuse of infrastructure funds stays unchallenged in court.
