CDU’s generational clash over pension reforms divides party unity

Hubert Hüppe, head of the CDU's Senior Citizens’ Union, has addressed the concerns of the party's younger members regarding pensions. The younger generation, particularly those in the Young Union, have rejected the government's pension package, calling for a cap on the stabilisation of the pension level at 48 percent by 2031. This stance contradicts the Senior Citizens’ Union's goal of securing the pension level in the long term.

Hubert Hüppe has shown understanding towards the younger members' objections. He recognises their worries about pension funding and demographic changes. The Young Union, in particular, has been vocal about their desire to limit the stabilisation of the pension level, a move that the Senior Citizens’ Union opposes. The Senior Citizens’ Union, under Hüppe's leadership, advocates for a long-term guarantee of the pension level.

Hubert Hüppe has acknowledged the differing views within the CDU regarding pensions. While the younger members seek to cap the stabilisation of the pension level, the Senior Citizens’ Union, led by Hüppe, aims to secure it in the long term. This disagreement highlights the diverse interests within the party and the need for dialogue and compromise.
