Germany's CDU Reelects Leadership in Party Conference, Confirms Saarlouis Mayor Marc Speicher

Marc Speicher, the mayor of Saarlouis in Saarland, has been reelected to the federal executive board of Germany's Christian Democratic Union (CDU). At the party conference in Stuttgart, the 41-year-old secured 83.8 percent of the vote, according to a statement from the CDU's Saarland branch. Speicher has served on the board since 2021.

"We are delighted by Marc Speicher's reelection with such a strong result," said Stephan Toscani, the CDU's state chairman in Saarland. As mayor, he advocates forcefully for local government interests within the federal leadership. "He knows what really matters to people and brings that grassroots perspective directly into our party's top decision-making body."

Speicher: "We Must Be the Party That Does What's Right"

Speicher expressed his satisfaction with the reelection, stating: "The CDU must be the party for those who work hard—from the factory floor to the executive suite. And we must be the party that does the right thing and pushes it through, even in the face of apparent or short-term resistance."

Speicher has served as mayor of Saarlouis—officially designated an Europastadt (European City)—since 2024 and previously held a seat in the Saarland state parliament. Within the CDU's state executive in Saarland, he serves as membership coordinator. He is also chairman of the CDU-affiliated Christian Democratic Employees' Association (CDA) in Saarland and a member of the CDA's national executive board in Germany.
