Cebu City may boost cash gifts for seniors' golden and diamond anniversaries

A new proposal in Cebu City could see seniors celebrating major wedding anniversaries receive larger cash gifts. The City Council is reviewing plans to increase financial support for couples marking 50 and 60 years of marriage. Officials say the grants will help fund modest celebrations for these milestones.

Under the current proposal, couples reaching their 50th (golden) anniversary would get ₱30,000. Those celebrating their 60th (diamond) anniversary would receive ₱50,000. Even couples who already claimed a grant for their golden anniversary can apply again when they hit 60 years.

To qualify, applicants must have lived in Cebu City for at least a decade. They also need to present a marriage certificate from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), along with Senior Citizen IDs and voter certifications. City leaders argue that these long-married couples serve as role models, reflecting the strength of family bonds in the community. The proposal is now with the council's committee on laws for further review. No official figures exist on how many couples in Cebu City have previously received state support for these anniversaries as of March 2026.

If approved, the increased grants will provide financial relief for couples planning small celebrations. The city hopes the move will honour lasting commitments while easing costs for elderly residents. A final decision will come after the committee's assessment.
