Celebrating Air Fleet Day, civil aviation workers and veterans in the Sverdlovsk region were congratulated by the local government.
Koltsovo Airport, a significant international hub serving Yekaterinburg and the surrounding region in Sverdlovsk Oblast, Russia, has recently made headlines for its impressive growth and modernization efforts. The airport, which operates flights to around 87 destinations with 24 airlines, has emerged as a major player in the Russian aviation network.
Last year, Koltsovo Airport facilitated over 8 million passengers, a record for the region. This milestone underscores the airport's growing importance as a transport hub not only in the Ural region but throughout Russia. The Government of Sverdlovsk Oblast, recognising the significance of the transport industry, has prioritised comprehensive support for air transport in the region.
One of the key factors contributing to Koltsovo Airport's success is the professional and responsible work of Russia's Air Fleet employees. Their high professionalism, discipline, responsibility, and goal-orientedness deserve utmost respect and gratitude. The airline operating a significant portion of the flights at Koltsovo Airport, Ural Airlines, based in Yekaterinburg and established over 30 years ago, plays a crucial role in this achievement.
In a congratulatory message issued on Air Fleet Day, the Government of Sverdlovsk Oblast acknowledged the vital role of the civil aviation sector in the social and economic development, improvement of transport infrastructure, and provision of comfortable, reliable, and safe cargo and passenger transportation.
Another significant development at Koltsovo Airport is the implementation of a contactless passport control system, making it the first Russian airport to adopt such technology. This modernization, completed in July 2025, was made possible with federal support. A large-scale modernization of Koltsovo Airport's international terminal and border crossing point was also completed during the same period.
The message about these achievements was published in the "Regional Newspaper". Despite the impressive growth and modernization, precise figures for passenger traffic at Koltsovo in 2025 are not yet available. However, its comparison to other Russian airports such as Sochi International Airport (which handled about 5.2 million passengers in 2024) and major airports like Pulkovo Airport (St. Petersburg, with fluctuating but reaching over 18 million passengers in 2022) suggests Koltsovo Airport plays a key role regionally.
As Koltsovo Airport continues to grow and modernize, it is poised to become an even more significant player in the Russian aviation sector, contributing to the region's economic development and providing comfortable, reliable, and safe travel options for passengers.
- The growing importance of Koltsovo Airport as a transport hub extends not only to the Ural region but also impacts the broader Russian transportation industry.
- The professional work of Russia's Air Fleet employees, who operate a significant portion of the flights at Koltsovo Airport, significantly contributes to the success of this aviation hub.
- The implementation of a contactless passport control system at Koltsovo Airport, a first in Russia, was made possible with federal support and aligns with the national focus on finance and technology in the aviation sector.
