Celle’s 4th Fire Platoon Leaves Historic Vorwerk Home After 90 Years
The 4th Platoon of Celle Volunteer Fire Department – Central Station has bid farewell to its traditional home in Vorwerk after nearly 90 years. The platoon, previously known as the Vorwerk firefighting group, has moved into a new equipment building and been renamed accordingly.
The Vorwerk firefighting group was established in 1935 as a 15-member unit operating under the Garßen fire district. It was equipped with five 20-meter raw hemp hoses and two C-branch pipes. In 1958, the fire department purchased a portable fire pump from Metz, capable of delivering 800 liters per minute, granting it independence from hydrant network pressure.
The group evolved over time, becoming an independent municipal fire department in 1946. Until now, most training exercises and camaraderie have taken place in Vorwerk, but emergency response was not organized by platoon. However, with the incorporation of the municipality of Vorwerk into the city of Celle in 1961, the Vorwerk municipal fire department was integrated into the Celle Volunteer Fire Department – Central Station.
The departure from Vorwerk was celebrated in a formal ceremony, marking the end of an era. The 4th Platoon, one of four platoons within the department, will continue to handle training and operations with members from across the entire catchment area of the central station. Despite the move, Vorwerk will remain operational for firefighting and technical assistance missions.
