Center-Right Parties Form Alliance for Emmental Elections

Several parties in the Emmental region are forming an alliance for the upcoming presidential election. The goal is to strengthen the center-right bloc in the electoral college, which holds 15 seats in the cantonal parliament. The deadline for submitting electoral alliances is January 19.

The alliance, motivated by both strategic and ideological reasons, includes the FDP, GLP, Greens, EVP, and EDU, each securing one seat. This aligns with the five-party 'civil alliance' ticket for the presidential election. In 2022, a rare three-party coalition was formed by the SVP, FDP, and The Centre. Currently, the SVP occupies six seats, while the SP and The Centre each hold two. However, there is no information about which parties plan to collaborate for the 2026 presidential election or if this represents a change from the 2022 alliance.

The new alliance aims to bolster the center-right presence in the Emmental constituency, with the deadline for electoral alliances fast approaching on January 19. The composition and implications of this alliance will become clearer as the election day nears.
