Central Asia Unites on Security and Backs Kyrgyzstan’s UN Bid

Leaders of Central Asian states have come together to approve a significant new policy framework. The Concept of Regional Security, Stability, and Sustainable Development in Central Asia was endorsed at the 7th Consultative Meeting, along with a Catalogue of Central Asian Security Risks and Measures for Their Prevention for 2026–2028. Notably, the meeting also saw an Appeal by the Heads of Central Asian States in support of the Kyrgyz Republic’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for 2027–2028.

The Concept of Regional Security, Stability, and Sustainable Development in Central Asia was signed by the leaders of Kazakhstan, Russia, China, and other regional partners. This multi-vector political approach aims to foster cooperation and progress in the region. The Catalogue of Central Asian Security Risks, also endorsed, outlines potential threats and preventive measures for the coming years.

The 7th Consultative Meeting also marked a significant step in regional integration. Azerbaijan was admitted as a full participant, demonstrating a commitment to expanding cooperation and dialogue.

The joint statement endorsed by the Central Asian leaders underscores their shared commitment to regional security, stability, and sustainable development. The approved Concept and Catalogue provide a roadmap for addressing potential risks and fostering cooperation. Meanwhile, the support for Kyrgyz Republic's UN Security Council candidacy reflects a spirit of solidarity among the Central Asian states.
