Central Asian Woman Arrested in Siberia for Alleged Online Methadone Trafficking
A woman from a Central Asian country has been detained in Siberia on suspicion of running an online drug distribution operation. Authorities seized around 150 grams of methadone, a powerful synthetic narcotic, with an estimated street value exceeding 750,000 rubles (around $8,000).
The suspect was arrested following an investigation by the FSB's Omsk Regional Directorate. Border Guard officers uncovered a trafficking route used to supply drugs across Siberia's Federal District. During raids, they confiscated methadone, which she allegedly planned to sell in bulk via the internet.
A court has now ordered her pretrial detention. Investigators are working to map out the full scale of the network, including how she contacted buyers and coordinated deliveries. The case centres on charges of large-scale narcotics distribution, a serious criminal offence in Russia.
The detained woman remains in custody as the probe continues. If convicted, she could face severe penalties under Russian drug laws. The operation highlights ongoing efforts by authorities to disrupt online narcotics trafficking in the region.
