Changes in Timetables Bring New Lines and Times in Local Transport - Central Germany’s public transport faces sweeping timetable changes in December

A major timetable overhaul is coming to public transport across Central Germany. The Mitteldeutscher Verkehrsverbund (MDV) will introduce sweeping changes from December 14, 2023, affecting trains, trams, and buses in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia. Some updates in the Leipzig area have already begun under the 'Network of the Future' project.

The changes will roll out in phases, with adjustments in Halle (Saale) starting on December 14. Key hubs, travel times, and long-distance routes are being revised, leading to knock-on effects for the S-Bahn Mitteldeutschland network and regional rail services. In Leipzig, North Saxony, Altenburger Land, and Saalekreis, schedules have been tweaked to ensure smoother connections.

The updated timetables aim to improve coordination across Central Germany’s transport network. Passengers are advised to check the latest schedules online or via apps before travelling. The adjustments will take full effect from mid-December, with local operators providing further details.
