Challenge Issued by Don Renato Sacco to Crosetto at the Cameri base: Engage in a Showdown over the F35 Jet
In the symbolic location of Cameri, where F35 stealth fighters are manufactured, Reverend Renato Sacco, the vice parish priest of Villadossola and a national representative of Pax Christi, has renewed his call for a public debate. The event, to be held in front of the military airport or Leonardo's hub, is intended to be a civil but frank confrontation about the use of F35 stealth fighters and Italy's role in the ongoing Gaza conflict.
Reverend Sacco has been vocal about his opposition to the F35 stealth fighters, arguing that Italy's actions are hypocritical, as they condemn war while selling weapons to Israel. He links the Gaza issue to the F35 stealth fighters, stating that Italy is in partnership with Israel for weapons purchases.
The debate is intended to be without ideological prejudices, allowing for a thorough discussion on the ethical implications of Italy's involvement in the sale of weapons to Israel. So far, no politician has appeared at the event invited by Reverend Sacco to defend the F35 stealth fighters.
Reverend Sacco has been a long-time advocate for peace, a stance repeated by the Pope. He criticises the welcoming of injured Palestinian children while arming their enemies, stating that the situation is so severe that it can no longer be accepted.
The defence minister, Guido Crosetto, has not yet responded to the invitation for the debate. Reverend Sacco's call to action is a renewed appeal, as he had previously renewed his call to address the issues of the F35 stealth fighters.
The debate on the use of F35 stealth fighters, according to Father Sacco, is crucial in light of the linked issues with Gaza and weapons sales to Israel. He emphasises the need for peace, stating that Italy's actions are contributing to the ongoing conflict and the suffering of the Palestinian people.
As the debate approaches, Reverend Sacco hopes that it will spark a much-needed conversation about the role of Italy in the Middle East and the ethical implications of its military actions. Only time will tell if the defence minister will accept the invitation and engage in a dialogue about this contentious issue.
