Chemnitz Approves Four Sunday Shopping Events for 2026 Festivities
Chemnitz City Council has given the green light for four Sunday shopping events in 2026. The decision follows the Saxon Shop Opening Act, which allows stores to open on Sundays for special occasions.
The approved dates cover both seasonal markets and anniversary celebrations in different parts of the city.
The first event will take place on Sunday, March 8, 2026, in the Röhrsdorf district’s Chemnitz-Center. From 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM, visitors can attend a Spring Flea Market combined with a 20th Anniversary celebration.
Later in the year, Sunday, October 4, 2026, will see another event in the same location. The Experience & Anniversary Flea Market will again run from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM, offering shopping and activities for the public.
For the festive season, two Sundays have been set aside for the Chemnitz Christmas Market in the city centre. The first will be on Sunday, November 29, 2026, followed by another on Sunday, December 13, 2026. Both dates will allow shops to open between 12:00 PM and 6:00 PM for holiday shopping.
These four dates mark the only approved Sunday shopping opportunities in Chemnitz for 2026. The council’s decision aligns with regional regulations, giving residents and visitors extra chances to shop during key events. Each session will run for six hours, providing a limited but extended window for trade.
