Chemnitz to Host New Europe Direct Center Starting 2026
Chemnitz is set to become home to a new Europe Direct center, one of six new locations in Germany for the 2026-2030 funding period. The center aims to bring people together, foster trust in the EU, and highlight its relevance to everyday life.
The European Commission will provide €44,000 in annual funding for the center, with the city of Chemnitz contributing around €15,000 of its own resources to cover expenses. The center will be based within Chemnitz City Hall under the Lord Mayor’s office, and will serve as a point of contact for citizens on all EU-related matters for an initial period of five years. In Chemnitz, engagement activities will primarily take place in intervention spaces created as part of Chemnitz 2025 European Capital of Culture. The center will open on January 1, 2026, and will be located on the ground floor of the TIETZ building. Germany currently hosts 48 Europe Direct centers, with Chemnitz being one of the newest additions.
