Chengdu's Cultural and Economic Outreach to Europe Bears Fruit

Chengdu, the capital of China's Sichuan province, has been actively promoting cultural exchange and economic cooperation with Europe. The city recently hosted a series of events in Paris, Frankfurt, and Vienna, showcasing its unique culture and achievements. These events also aimed to strengthen Chengdu's brand and foster ties with European cities.

The 'Invitation from the Hometown of Pandas-Chengdu Panda Week' events, held from October 24 to 27, 2025, featured an art exhibition in Paris that integrated pandas and Chengdu's culture, displaying over 200 works. Jean-Louis Balandraud commended Chengdu's use of pandas as a cultural bridge for tourism promotion.

The events also highlighted Chengdu's approach to integrating development with ecology, earning praise from Dr. Jella Wauters who looked forward to technological cooperation. In addition to cultural and ecological showcases, the events in Frankfurt and Vienna included economic, trade, and musical dialogues.

Chengdu's efforts have borne fruit in terms of economic cooperation. In 2024, the city's total import and export volume with the EU reached 142.16 billion yuan, and it attracted USD 1.671 billion in foreign direct investment. Chengdu has also established sister city or friendly cooperation relationships with 31 EU cities and has 19 direct cargo and passenger routes to the EU.

Chengdu's cultural and economic outreach to Europe has been successful, as evidenced by the events held in Paris, Frankfurt, and Vienna. The city's unique culture, particularly its association with pandas, has proven to be an effective tool for promoting tourism and fostering international cooperation. Chengdu's economic ties with the EU have also strengthened, with significant trade volumes and foreign direct investment. As Chengdu continues to build bridges with European cities, it can expect further growth and cooperation in the future.
