Chichén Itzá Leads as Mexico’s Top Archaeological Site in 2025
Mexico’s archaeological sites drew nearly half of all visitors in 2025, with over 9 million people exploring ancient ruins. Among these, Chichén Itzá stood out as the most popular destination, attracting nearly 2 million tourists alone. The figures highlight the country’s rich cultural heritage as a major draw for both domestic and international travellers.
In 2025, Mexico welcomed a total of 19,567,714 visitors, with 15,054,178 coming from within the country and 4,513,536 from abroad. Of these, 46.32%—around 9,063,734 people—visited archaeological sites across the nation.
The data confirms Chichén Itzá’s position as Mexico’s top archaeological attraction in 2025, far outpacing other major sites. With millions flocking to these historic locations, tourism remains a key part of the country’s cultural and economic landscape. The concentration of visitors at a handful of sites also suggests strong interest in well-known destinations over lesser-known ruins.
