China overtakes the US as Germany’s top trading partner in 2025
China has replaced the United States as Germany’s top trading partner in the first nine months of 2025. New figures show a shift in trade flows between the two economic giants. The change comes as bilateral trade with Beijing reached record levels during this period. From January to September 2025, Germany’s foreign trade with China totalled €185.9 billion. This narrowly surpassed trade with the United States, which stood at €184.7 billion over the same period. The data marks the first time China has held the leading position in Germany’s trade rankings. The latest trade figures confirm China’s rise as Germany’s primary economic partner. The €1.2 billion gap between the two nations reflects shifting trade dynamics. Analysts will now watch whether this trend continues into the final quarter of 2025.
