China, Russia Vow to Strengthen 'No-Limits' Partnership Amid U.S. Pressure
China and Russia have reaffirmed their commitment to a 'no-limits' partnership, vowing to strengthen cooperation across all sectors. This comes amidst slowing trade and U.S. pressure on both nations.
The two countries, led by President Xi Jinping and President Vladimir Putin, met at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. They discussed potential growth in various sectors, including energy, agriculture, aerospace, the digital economy, and green development. Xi Jinping stressed that bolstering the China-Russia relationship is a strategic choice for both sides.
The meeting also addressed trade, which reached a record $240 billion in 2023. However, trade has slowed in recent months due to U.S. pressure. China, a key buyer of Russian oil, has paused seaborne purchases due to U.S. sanctions on major Russian producers. Despite these challenges, both sides agreed to respond appropriately to external challenges and reinforce cooperation.
China and Russia have pledged to deepen economic cooperation, with Xi Jinping promising to boost mutual investment. They have also reaffirmed their support for each other's positions on key issues, including Russia's backing of the 'one-China' policy and opposition to 'Taiwan independence'. As the two nations face slowing trade and external pressure, they have committed to strengthening their partnership.
