China, Russia Vow to Strengthen Ties Amid Global Turbulence

Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin met in Hangzhou, China, for the 30th regular meeting of China-Russia heads of government. During the meeting, both leaders expressed their commitment to strengthening ties between the two nations.

Li emphasized China's intent to further advance the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership in the new era. He expressed China's commitment to strengthening strategic communication with Russia and expanding cooperation across various sectors. Mishustin, in turn, stated that Russia-China cooperation is deepening despite global political and economic turbulence.

Russia plans to increase exports of food products to China, which have gained popularity there. The use of the dollar and euro in Russia-China bilateral trade has fallen to a negligible level, indicating a shift towards local currencies. Several large-scale joint projects have been launched between the two countries, spanning oil and gas field development, high-tech equipment production, and collaboration in energy, nuclear power, and space exploration. They are also working together in aviation, automotive manufacturing, transport corridors, and Arctic conditions.

Mishustin invited Li to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of Government meeting in Moscow on 17-18 November. Moscow also hopes to boost tourism with China through a visa-free regime for Russian citizens and is considering similar measures for Chinese citizens. Despite global challenges, both leaders agreed to continue fostering the strategic partnership between China and Russia.
