China threatens retaliation as US tariff tensions escalate over trade and tech
China has warned the US against imposing new tariffs, raising concerns over trade and technology disputes. The announcement highlights escalating tensions between Beijing and Washington, particularly in the semiconductor industry.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian stated that China would take necessary steps to defend its interests if the tariffs proceed.
The Chinese government has strongly criticised the US over its planned tariff increases. Lin Jian called on Washington to abandon what he described as 'wrong practices' in trade policy.
The Ministry of Commerce echoed this stance, confirming that China would respond with measures to protect its rights. The warnings come amid broader disagreements between the two nations, especially in high-tech sectors like semiconductors.
If the US moves forward with the tariffs, China has signalled it will act to safeguard its economic interests. The dispute adds to ongoing friction in trade relations, with both sides standing firm on their positions.
