Chita Battles Surge in Fraud as Street Crimes Drop
Chita has seen a surge in telephone and internet fraud, with 1895 residents falling victim to such crimes. Despite this, street crimes have decreased by 22% compared to last year. Efforts to combat fraud and other offenses are underway.
The interdepartmental commission in Chita's administration held a meeting to discuss the prevention of thefts committed using information and communication technologies. This follows a rise in such crimes, which now account for almost half (47%) of all registered offenses in the city as of September 2025.
Preventive measures include educational conversations with nearly 13,000 pensioners this year. These discussions aim to raise awareness about different types of fraud and ways to protect against them. Officials believe that information and explanatory work among the population is the most effective way to combat these crimes.
However, the overall number of crimes in Chita has increased by 9% compared to the same period in 2024.
Chita is grappling with a significant increase in telephone and internet fraud, despite a decrease in street crimes. The city administration is taking steps to prevent and educate the public about these offenses, with a focus on information and explanatory work. However, the total number of crimes has risen, indicating a need for continued vigilance and efforts to combat criminal activity.
