Church in Wales to vote on interim bishop for Bangor Diocese

The Church in Wales is set to hold a special meeting to address the vacancy in the Diocese of Bangor. On November 25, the governing body will gather at Venue Cymru in Llandudno to discuss an interim solution after Bishop Andrew John’s retirement left the position empty.

The Electoral College initially paused the election process, deciding not to shortlist candidates. Instead, it proposed inviting an experienced bishop to serve as an interim for one to two years. This temporary appointment aims to bring stability and leadership while the diocese tackles financial and organisational challenges.

If approved, the interim bishop would take on the role for a fixed term. The decision follows months of uncertainty after Bishop John’s departure. The governing body’s vote will determine whether this short-term measure moves forward.
