City Council Discontinues Market Hall by End of 2025
The Märtkafi in Affoltern am Albis will close its doors for good at the end of the 2025 market season. The Town Council has decided to shut down the café after years of low visitor numbers and financial struggles. Current tenant Kultur Affoltern will end its lease at that time.
The decision follows a review of the café’s operations, which showed a persistent gap between costs and income. Despite efforts to keep it running, the council concluded that the venue no longer justified the resources required. No new lease tender will be issued for the site.
The space itself will not remain empty. After minor renovations, it will be repurposed as a meeting or seminar room. The council has also confirmed that the area will still be available for rent, allowing cultural and community events to continue.
With the closure set for late 2025, the future of the Märtkafi location remains open. The council has not announced any potential new tenants, leaving the space’s long-term use undecided. For now, the venue will shift focus to hosting private and public gatherings instead of daily café operations.
