In a significant move towards the future of mobility, the City of Fullerton, California, has entered into a partnership with autonomous aviation company Wisk Aero. The collaboration, formalized in May 2023, marks a crucial step in expanding Wisk's presence within the Los Angeles-Orange County metropolitan area.

Under the terms of the memorandum of understanding (MoU), Wisk Aero and the City of Fullerton will work together to develop infrastructure for autonomous air taxis at Fullerton Municipal Airport. This partnership builds on Wisk's ongoing collaboration with Long Beach, and the agreement with the City of Fullerton further strengthens its presence in the region.

The initiative aims to create a sustainable air mobility ecosystem in Orange County, focusing on route planning and securing grants for infrastructure development. Operational and commercial planning form another core aspect of the partnership. Wisk and the city will jointly evaluate infrastructure needs and assess opportunities for training and maintenance facilities at the Fullerton airport.

The city plans to integrate Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) and Urban Air Mobility (UAM) into its airport's strategic planning, focusing on infrastructure, electrical grid requirements, and airspace management. The efforts will also involve developing policies for operations, such as permitting processes and guidelines for community noise levels.

The partnership does not involve any specific mention of reports or data insights related to Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Market Size, Share, Trend or Environmental sustainability in Railway: Electric locomotives. However, it does emphasize the importance of staying proactive with real-time data and expert analysis in the development of this innovative ecosystem.

The collaboration between Wisk Aero and the City of Fullerton also aims to explore potential vertiport sites across Southern California. This initiative could unlock potential partnerships with other vertiport sites, contributing to a regional network.

Jeff Ball, Orange County Business Council president and CEO, stated that the partnership will keep Orange County at the forefront of technology and transportation. The goal is to create high-quality jobs, strengthen connections between communities, and position Orange County as a leader in the future of mobility.

This partnership signifies an important step in introducing autonomous air travel in Japan, as Wisk Aero has also signed an MoU with the City of Kaga in Ishikawa, Japan, and JAL Engineering (JALEC). The MoU with the City of Kaga focuses on regulatory development, market analysis, social acceptance initiatives, and supply chain support.

In conclusion, the partnership between Wisk Aero and the City of Fullerton is a significant step towards the development of autonomous air taxi infrastructure in the Los Angeles-Orange County area. With a focus on operational and commercial planning, infrastructure development, and exploring potential vertiport sites, this collaboration is set to shape the future of mobility in Southern California.
