Climate activists splash black paint on TD Bank branch in Berlin protest
Three women staged a protest outside a TD Bank branch in Berlin's Mitte district on Tuesday. They poured black paint over the building's windows, door and pavement while holding signs about climate protection. Police later arrested the group but released them after processing their details.
The protest took place in front of a US Bank on Friedrichstraße. The women, aged 24, 28 and 44, splashed black paint across the glass façade and entrance. They also stuck paper resembling banknotes onto the windows and door.
During the action, the trio displayed banners and chanted slogans linked to environmental causes. Police arrived quickly, recorded their identities and seized the remaining paint containers. The suspects were briefly detained before being let go.
Cleaning crews are now working to remove the paint, though it remains uncertain whether traces will linger. The case has since been handed to Berlin's State Criminal Police Office, specifically the unit dealing with political extremism and state security.
Authorities have not disclosed how the suspects were classified following their arrest. The bank branch remains affected while removal efforts continue. The investigation is ongoing under the state protection unit's oversight.
