Cologne’s AMG School Expands with a Modern Two-Story Wooden Building by 2027

The Albertus-Magnus-Gymnasium (AMG) in Cologne is set to receive a temporary two-story wooden building as part of the city's plan to accommodate the switch back to the G9 school system. The interim structure is scheduled for completion by the 2026/27 school year.

The new building, set to be ready by 2027, will provide essential space for AMG students during the transition. The ground floor will feature four new classrooms, ensuring ample teaching space. The upper floor is designed with modern facilities, including two state-of-the-art physics labs and a dedicated computer science classroom, to enhance the learning experience.

To maintain connectivity, existing pedestrian paths between AMG and Johannes-Gutenberg-Realschule (JGR) will remain open. Additionally, JGR will receive compensatory space on nearby city-owned land, near the puppet pavilion, to mitigate any inconveniences caused by the transition.

An information session has been arranged for Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. in Room 41 of AMG to discuss the planned measures. This session aims to keep parents, teachers, and students informed about the upcoming changes and how they will be managed.
