Cologne’s Schnapphahner Dell traffic overhaul starts in May with new barriers
A significant traffic change is coming to the Schnapphahner Dell area in Cologne. Starting early May, a barrier will be installed in Im Schmelzerwald, altering traffic flow and preventing through traffic towards Ensheimer Straße for motor vehicles and motorcycles.
The new arrangement will make Schnapphahner Dell and Lautzentalstraße accessible only via Straße Im Schmelzerwald from the direction of Ensheimer Straße. Cyclists, however, will have dedicated 1.5m wide passages on either side of the barrier, ensuring they can still navigate the area.
From Saarbrücker Straße, the only accessible route through the underpass will be Straße Am Güterbahnhof. The city of Cologne is responsible for installing the barrier, which is expected to be in place by the beginning of May, likely in week 19.
The barrier installation in Im Schmelzerwald will change traffic flow to a two-way dead-end arrangement, affecting motorists and motorcyclists. Cyclists will have separate passages. The city of Cologne urges drivers to plan alternative routes and be prepared for the changes.
