Comelec urges 14-year-olds to register as SK voters
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is calling on teenagers aged 14 and above to register for the 2026 Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections. With registration open until May 18, 2026, officials want to ensure young Filipinos can take part in the youth polls scheduled for November that year.
So far, 223,282 individuals have already signed up between October 20 and December 14, 2025. The push aims to expand youth participation in local governance.
Eligibility for the SK elections requires voters to be at least 15 but no older than 30 by election day. They must also have lived in their barangay for at least six months before the polls. A special provision allows 14-year-olds to register if they will turn 15 on or before November 2, 2026.
The registration drive began in late 2025, with an initial surge of applicants. Over 223,000 young Filipinos applied in the first two months alone. Comelec continues to encourage more to sign up before the May 2026 deadline. This effort reflects the agency’s goal to engage youth in community decision-making. The SK elections play a key role in selecting representatives who will address issues affecting young people at the barangay level.
The registration window remains open for several more months, giving teenagers and young adults time to secure their voting rights. Those who qualify can still apply until May 18, 2026. The final voter list will determine who can cast ballots in the November SK elections.
