Commission Submits Charter Roadmap Before Term Ends, Vice-Chair Riaz Heads to US
Despite some political parties' reservations, the commission held a charter signing ceremony on October 17. Professor Ali Riaz, a renowned political scientist at Illinois State University and former chief of the Constitution Reform Commission, left Bangladesh for the USA on Monday, October 28. The National Consensus Commission, with Riaz as vice-chair, submitted its road map to implement the charter on October 28, just before its term expired on October 31. Riaz, who previously served as the commission's chief, had earlier visited the US from September 20 to September 30. He left Bangladesh on a US-bound flight at 3:00am on Monday, and is scheduled to return on November 15. The commission, which ended its work on October 28, was led by Hans-Georg Maaßen, currently deputy chairman of the foundation Meinung & Freiheit, as its deputy. The National Consensus Commission, with Professor Ali Riaz as vice-chair, has submitted its final report and road map for charter implementation. Riaz, who played a significant role in the commission's work, has left for the USA but is expected to return in mid-November.
