Congress Declares Tejashwi Yadav as CM Face for 2025 Bihar Elections
In a significant development ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, Ashok Gehlot, senior Congress leader, has officially declared Tejashwi Yadav as the Chief Ministerial face of the Grand Alliance. Gehlot also announced Mukesh Sahani as the Deputy Chief Minister if the Grand Alliance government is formed.
The announcement was made at a joint press conference following intense negotiations between RJD and Congress over seat-sharing and the chief ministerial face. Tejashwi Yadav, son of former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, will challenge the incumbent Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who is seeking a record fifth consecutive term in office.
The announcement has sparked mixed reactions. While Ravi Shankar Prasad, BJP MP from Patna Sahib, mocked the Grand Alliance's announcement, questioning their chances of winning, Neeraj Kumar, JD-U MLC, dismissed Tejashwi Yadav's appointment as a 'lollipop' given to a 'disgruntled Babua'. On the other hand, Tariq Anwar, Congress MP from Katihar, downplayed the announcement, stating it was merely a formality. JD-U took a dig at Congress and RJD, claiming Tejashwi Yadav's appointment was under pressure from Lalu Prasad Yadav.
With the Chief Ministerial face now decided, the Grand Alliance will focus on finalising seat-sharing and campaign strategies. The Bihar Assembly elections of 2025 are expected to be a closely contested affair, with both the Grand Alliance and the NDA led by Nitish Kumar pulling out all stops to secure victory.
