Congress' Gogoi Accuses BJP of Ignorance on Bengali History and Language
Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Gaurav Gogoi has sparked a political row, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of lacking knowledge of Bengali language and history. Gogoi's remarks follow a controversy over a Congress leader allegedly singing the 'anthem' of Bangladesh at a public event.
Gogoi questioned the BJP's understanding of Bengali history and language, stating that Rabindranath Tagore, a Bengali poet, wrote the poem in question long before 'Bangladesh' was formed. He alleged that the BJP was creating a 'politico' controversy where none existed.
Gogoi further alleged that Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma was facing pressure due to public distrust in the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the death of singer Zubeen Garg. He claimed that the BJP was internally discussing a leadership change in Assam, although he did not specify who the potential successors were or when the discussions began.
Gogoi's accusations have added fuel to the political 'breaking news' in Assam. The BJP has not yet responded to Gogoi's allegations regarding the national anthem controversy or the potential leadership change. As the political landscape in Assam continues to evolve, both parties are expected to remain vocal in their respective stances.
