Conservative Group Launches 'One Small Step' to Connect Latinos with U.S. Principles and Boost GOP Appeal
The LIBRE Initiative, a conservative advocacy group, is launching a significant campaign, 'One Small Step', to connect Latinos with U.S. founding principles and promote limited government and free-market values. Supported by several international organizations, this multiyear program aims to empower small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in climate action and could potentially boost Republican appeal among Hispanic voters.
The campaign, set to run nationwide, will include events, paid media efforts, civics classes, and community gatherings. Its goal is to strengthen the LIBRE Initiative's brand and help Latinos identify with U.S. history. Daniel Garza, the executive director, hopes this initiative will help conservatives deliver their message to voters and sell Republican legislative accomplishments.
Historically, conservative groups have worked to attract Latino voters to Republican candidates and causes. A New York Times poll found that 26% of Hispanic voters approved of Trump's job performance, with 69% disapproving. However, some Democratic strategists question whether Trump's strength with Hispanic voters will translate to down-ballot Republicans in upcoming elections. In 2024, Trump won nearly as many Hispanic votes as Kamala Harris, an improvement from his 2020 performance.
The 'One Small Step' campaign, backed by various international organizations, seeks to empower SMEs in climate action while also engaging Latino voters. Its success could influence the political landscape, particularly as the U.S. approaches its 250th anniversary.
