Consortium to Revitalize ICC Berlin, Lease Land for 99 Years

The future of the International Congress Center (ICC) Berlin is set to be decided by a consortium of experienced companies. The group aims to refurbish, renovate, and convert the building, then operate it permanently with a viable concept. The land will remain the State of Berlin's property, leased for 99 years under a heritable building right.

The consortium, consisting of companies from construction, architecture, project development, and building services engineering, all with strong local ties, will develop a utilization concept for the ICC by the end of April 2026. This concept will align with guidelines for art, culture, creative industries, innovation, technology, congress, and event management. The consortium's experience in developing complex buildings while considering monument protection and pollutant remediation ensures a sustainable approach.

The bidding process will culminate in an award recommendation for the ICC's future operator in July 2026. Despite the consortium's expertise and commitment, the exact companies involved have not been publicly disclosed as of October 2025.

The consortium's work is expected to secure the ICC's future, transforming it into a sustainable hub for art, culture, and innovation. The State of Berlin will retain ownership of the land, leasing it for 99 years. The final decision on the ICC's operator is scheduled for July 2026.
