Construction of maintenance hangar by Antonov at Leipzig Airport underway
The Ukrainian aviation company Antonov is currently building a new maintenance hangar at Leipzig/Halle Airport, with the project expected to be completed in the first half of 2027. The hangar will be capable of accommodating large Antonov 124 cargo planes for maintenance purposes.
The investment for the construction of the new maintenance hangar is being fully financed by Antonov Logistics Salis GmbH (ALS), a subsidiary of the Ukrainian state-owned Antonov company. The leasehold contract covers an area of 24,000 square meters in the northern part of the airport.
ALS, based in Schkeuditz, has been present at Leipzig/Halle Airport with a maintenance base since 2006. Currently, six Antonov aircraft are stationed at the airport, following the reported relocation of the entire fleet from Ukraine due to the Russian invasion.
Uwe Schuhart, the airport spokesman for Leipzig/Halle Airport, confirmed the construction of the new maintenance hangar. The airport has signed an agreement with ALS for the construction, which is being carried out by a company with direct ties to Antonov.
Antonov has been a significant presence at Leipzig/Halle Airport for over a decade, and the construction of this new hangar is set to further strengthen their operations in Germany. The airport is excited about the potential benefits this project will bring, both in terms of economic growth and the continued expansion of its aviation services.
