Construction work begins on the riverside path in the heart of Giessen: MWB and city renew traffic lanes and cycle path
Major construction work will start on Uferweg in Giessen on January 12, 2026. The project involves upgrading underground utilities and resurfacing the road, leading to temporary closures along a key stretch of the route.
The work will begin with MWB installing new utility lines. After this, the city’s civil engineering department will repave the road surface. The affected section runs between the DLRG building and number 12a, forcing a full closure for the duration of the project.
A signed detour will guide drivers and pedestrians around the site. The city expects the entire operation to take roughly five months. Authorities have asked residents and road users to plan ahead and remain patient during the disruption. The Stadtverwaltung Giessen is overseeing the project, though no specific building authority representative has been named in public notices.
Uferweg will remain closed between the DLRG building and number 12a until the work finishes. The city has arranged alternative routes to minimise inconvenience. Completion is scheduled for mid-2026, weather and progress permitting.
