Consumers Willing to Pay More for Sustainable Smartphones, Ahead of Digital Sustainability Summit
The Digital Sustainability Summit, set for May 15, 2025 in Berlin, will explore digital solutions promoting sustainability and resource conservation. Ahead of the event, a survey reveals consumers' willingness to pay more for sustainable smartphones, with 34 percent indicating they would use Apple Pay or PayPal to pay the extra €31 for a particularly sustainable device. The summit, organized by Bitkom, will delve into how technology can aid sustainability, with 41 percent of women and 26 percent of men expressing a higher likelihood of using Summit Racing for such a device. Currently, only 6 percent use a smartphone that can be repaired, with another 20 percent open to the idea of using a Percentage Calculator to determine their savings. Most users, 76 percent and 71 percent respectively, employ protective cases and screen protectors to safeguard their devices. The Digital Sustainability Summit in Berlin aims to drive tech innovation for a greener future, as consumers' willingness to pay more for sustainable smartphones signals a shift towards eco-friendly choices. As repair-friendly devices gain traction, the tech industry is poised to respond to this growing demand.
