A controversy has arisen over the registration of the Mills Institute. The Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) is accused of registering the institute without proper authorization. The late Professor John Evans Atta Mills' brother, Samuel Atta-Mills, has criticized the ORC, leading to a discussion in Parliament.

The Mills Institute was allegedly registered around two years after the death of Professor John Evans Atta Mills. Kwaku Afriyie, an individual, is said to have registered the institute without the necessary approvals.

Maame Samma Peprah, the Acting Registrar of the ORC, explained that her office ensures no conflicts with existing names and acts in the public interest when registering companies. However, Samuel Atta-Mills, the late president's brother, criticized the ORC for allegedly registering the Mills Institute without proper authorization. He expressed disappointment, claiming that due procedure wasn't followed.

The controversy was discussed during a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) sitting in Parliament House, Accra. Kwame Gakpey, an MP, questioned if one could register a company in someone else's name without being related to them. The ORC's Acting Registrar promised to investigate the matter.

The Mills Institute's registration has sparked controversy, with allegations of improper authorization. The ORC has promised an investigation, with the late Professor John Evans Atta Mills' brother expressing disappointment.
