Cosmonaut Wagner Brought the Flag of Nizhny Novgorod from the ISS
Cosmonaut Ivan Vagner recently returned to Nizhny Novgorod after completing his second space mission. The visit included a special presentation of photographs taken from the International Space Station (ISS). During his trip, he also met with local residents to share stories from orbit.
Vagner’s second flight to space saw him carry the flags of Nizhny Novgorod and the Georgi Grechko Planetarium aboard the ISS. While in orbit, he photographed them with Earth in the background. These images were later presented to the planetarium during his visit.
His schedule included a tour of the Nizhny Novgorod Planetarium, where he discussed his experiences as a cosmonaut. He also explored the historic building of the Volga-Vyatka Main Directorate of the Bank of Russia and visited the museum at the Krasnoye Sormovo shipyard. In addition to the flag photographs, Vagner shared a sunset image of Nizhny Novgorod taken by fellow cosmonaut Anton Shkaplerov during Expedition 66/67 in 2021–2022. The picture captures the city along the Volga River. Throughout his stay, he held meetings with both children and adults, answering questions about life in space and the challenges of his profession.
The photographs of the city’s flag from the ISS are now part of the planetarium’s collection. Vagner’s visit provided locals with a direct connection to space exploration. His talks and presentations gave audiences a closer look at the work of cosmonauts.
