Coupang CEO apologizes after massive data breach exposes 33.7 million customers
Coupang, under the leadership of CEO Park Dae-jun, has experienced a significant data breach affecting 33.7 million customers. Park, who has headed the company since May 2023, publicly apologized and took responsibility for the incident. So far, no secondary damage from the hack has been confirmed.
The breach occurred during Park's tenure as CEO, with no further incidents reported at this time. Park joined Coupang in 2012 and previously served as co-CEO from 2020. In his statement, he acknowledged the incident and assured customers of immediate action.
Founder Kim Bom, despite stepping down from the board in 2021, remains a dominant figure at Coupang, holding 74.3% voting rights as the largest shareholder. He continues to drive the company's AI and logistics expansion, even as operational oversight falls to Park.
Park has committed to addressing the breach and preventing further harm. The company is now focused on securing customer data and restoring trust.
