Couple Honored With Federal Cross of Merit for Transforming Children's Lives in Solingen
Sybilla Therese Meyser-Opitz and Gunter Opitz, founders of the Felix Kids Club in Solingen, have been awarded the Federal Cross of Merit. The award, presented by Mayor Tim Kurzbach, recognizes their outstanding commitment to supporting children and young people from diverse backgrounds.
The couple established the Felix Kids Club in 2005, providing learning aids, leisure activities, and personal guidance. This created spaces where children experience recognition and opportunities, making it a well-established part of out-of-school support in Solingen.
Meyser-Opitz and Opitz have dedicated decades to social work and education. Meyser-Opitz held leadership roles in social service organizations, while Opitz contributed as an educator and trainer in social pedagogy.
