Cowboy's e-bike recall finally begins in Germany after nine-month delay

Cowboy has finally launched its long-awaited recall programme for e-bikes in Germany. The Belgian e-bike maker, now majority-owned by French investment firm Rebirth Group, announced the first operational centres in Berlin and Hamburg. Customers have faced a nine-month wait for repairs due to repeated delays in setting up the necessary infrastructure.

The recall was first announced in May 2025 after reports of potential frame failures. However, progress stalled as Cowboy struggled with financial difficulties and lengthy negotiations with Rebirth Group. Additional setbacks came from the need to source suitable locations and build a dedicated recall network from scratch.

Two German centres are now open, with further sites planned in London, Düsseldorf, and Munich. Earlier recall hubs were established in Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels, and Copenhagen to handle demand across Europe. Cowboy is prioritising bikes with the highest mileage and has introduced a tracking system for customers to monitor repair progress.

Rebirth Group has reaffirmed its commitment to completing the recall campaign. The company's takeover provided the financial stability needed to push the programme forward after months of uncertainty.

The recall is now underway, but the full rollout will take time. More centres are expected to open in the coming months, reducing wait times for affected riders. Owners can check Cowboy's official updates for the latest information on their bike's status.
